Adult Bible Studies
On Sundays (Church Library from 9:15 am – 10:15 am):
What if Jesus wrote a letter to your church? This eight-session LifeGuide Bible Study helps us engage with the words of Jesus in the seven letters to the seven churches in Revelation. Studying this Scripture within a group allows us to ask some hard questions of ourselves, of our leaders, and of the Lord. Jesus is pointedly honest with us. Whether we respond with a yawn or with a renewed pursuit of obedience is up to us.
Douglas Connelly (MDiv and MTh, Grace Theological Seminary) is senior pastor at Davison Missionary Church near Flint, Michigan, after serving twelve years as senior pastor at Parkside Community Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan. On Tuesdays (Fireside Room from 10 am – 11:30 am):
The word ‘ascent’ means a step, or an upwards climb. The ‘Songs of Ascent’ is the ancient title of a collection of 15 Psalms (sacred songs). They begin at Psalm 120 and they end at Psalm 134.
Bible students do not really know why these songs have this title. But here is the most likely explanation: God’s law includes a rule that Jewish men should go to Jerusalem for the sacred holidays each year. There are three such occasions, called Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles.
