Youth

Sunday Mornings

Our youth program continues to grow! We now have four age groups that meet every Sunday morning: the Little Lambs for ages 2 through 6; the J.A.M. (Jesus and Me) Club for grades 2 through 4; the C.I.A. (Christ in Action) for grades 5 through 8; and the Godly Crue for grades 9 through 12.

Using Spill the Beans – Worship and Learning Resources for All Ages each group will study the same Bible message for the week in an age appropriate manner. To further enhance understanding and promote discussion amongst all age groups, each week’s sermon is also based on the same scripture reading.

As noted in the forward to Spill the Beans, “At the beginning of 2009 a conversation began amongst couple, then a few, then a group about collaboratively creating resources that enabled us to tell the story of faith in a worship context and within age groups for younger people and teens. Spill the Beans was born as the result of that conversation and has grown and developed over the intervening years.”

Each week the program includes Bible Notes describing the week’s scripture verse, a retelling of the story for young people, worship ideas and prayers, suggested ideas for gathering, crafts, activities, games, and discussion starters for teens.

Wednesday Evenings

Now in its second full year, the Music & Drama Group (M.A.D.) presents an additional opportunity for middle and high school students to gather, share their joys and concerns, devotions, and to develop their music and acting skills by performing skits based on that week’s scripture reading to full-blown productions during the Easter and Christmas seasons. Their first Palm Sunday reenactment of Christ’s crucifixion was described by many as the best Palm/Passion Sunday service they had ever attended. This year their depiction of the crucifixion brought tears to the eyes of virtually every member of the congregation. Last Christmas they performed an original production that brought to life the true meaning of Christmas – not the shopping frenzy many call ‘Christmas.’

This year’s program, scheduled for December 13th, is “The Christmas Shoe Tree.”

Sunday Mornings

Too often children are not included in Sunday morning services. Not at the Rochester United Methodist Church. Children of all ages are encouraged to participate as candle lighters, ushers, liturgists, and assist with the serving of Communion.
